I am interested in a dog to track trapped animals on drags, as a decoy dog for calling coyotes and a good companion. I do predator control in SW South Dakota. Also must be good with people as it would be a shop dog at our gun shop.
Do you feel that this breed would fit my needs?

Im currently stationed in Alaska and I would like to purchase one of these dogs. I have been doing alot if research and have some questions for Dave. I have read your information and am very pleased with the information you have provided. My family and i are very avid hunters. We looking for a good all around hunting dog. I moved to the Pelican lake area about 8 yrs ago and met Dave and Loni a few months ago, even though we only live one mile apart, him and Loni are some of the nicest people you could ever meet, well that is as long as continues to come to my bar and has his one pizza a week.
Anyway Dave brought both of his dogs in the bar last week to show me just what type of dogs these are which then got me reading more about them, and the more I read the more I realiize that this breed of dog is ranked right up there with the best when it comes to hunting .
At first I thought he was just another dog owner like everyone else that has his favorite dog just like anyone else and it’s better than any other dog, but after spending 5 minutes with his dogs I was convinced that this breed is truly a great all around dog and I will own one someday.
So Dave some day when my occupation is more laid back and I have more time I will take you up on that pheasent hunt offer with my DW. Thanks again. Oh you better hurry in the pizza is getting cold

I am not always able to get to a computor as we have no internet access in the bush. We would be interested in your pups as we were unable to receive ours from Dave Pepe due to only two pups being available through him this year. Please contact Dave for a reference and our home phone. We are DWNA members and our story is on the forum regarding our past and present wachtelhunds. we also rescue/rehome wachtels and become their permanant owners. so, if you need to find a good home for a wachtel you should contact us.
we are practically neighbours considering the distances we went to for the Kansas prufungs.
Also we are big fans of Duke

YOU MAY HAVE GOTTEN AN ANSWER ALREADY, MY APOLOGIES FOR THE LATE RESPONSE – HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO VISIT FORUM FOR A WHILE (THE VOTING HAS ME LOOKING AROUND). WE ADDED A WACHTEL PUP (OTIS /MAKO) TO OUR FAMILY IN JULY OF LAST YEAR . SHIPPED TO FLORIDA FROM DAVE (EAGLE RIVER) AND HAVE BEEN ENJOYING EVERY MINUTE (WELL, ALMOST!). IN ADDITION TO HIS QUAIL FLUSHING / RETRIEVING DUTIES OTIS HAS BLOODTRAILED 5-6 WOUNDED DEER (2-3 AT NIGHT) THAT WOULD LIKELY HAVE NOT BEEN HARVESTED OTHERWISE (I WILL TRY TO POST SOME PICTURES ASAP). WE WORK AS A TEAM ON LEAD. WHEN WE MAKE THE FIND OR WHEN THE COVER GETS TOO THICK, I RELEASE HIM AND HE BAYS (TOTVERBELLEN IN GERMAN)/ RUFFS THE DEER TILL I PUT HIM BACK ON LEAD. WE NEED TO DO MORE WORK TO BECOME ACCOMPLISHED , BUT I AM VERY PROUD OF HIS PROGRESS – ESPECIALLY SINCE HE WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD! I AM PARTICULARLY PLEASED THAT HE SHOWS THE TOTVERBELLEN TRAIT SO STRONGLY – AN ENORMOUS ASSET IN THE DENSE NORTH FLORIDA WOODS!
