Good morning folks.
Damain from South Louisiana here.

Interested in getting our first Wachtelhund.
We currently have a Boykin (and three bassets) but she has reached a time where hunting is out of the question.

Gracie came to us as the last ″un registrable″ out of Edisto Kennels in Leeville NC.

She has been everything we wanted and more, however finding a pup of equal has proven difficult, so goes my interest in Wachtelhunds.

We hunt primarily ducks, but make and occasional push for woodcock and rabbits.

Looking forward to getting to know this breed better.

Respects,
Damain

Hi Damain,
Gracie is a good looking dog. It is sad to see our friends get older.

Wachtels are natural water dogs. In point of fact, it is hard to keep them out of water. Most of us hunt ducks with our dogs effectively. You will find Wachtels are very effective wood cock grouse dogs. My latest Wachtel is 6 months old. Last friday he flushed 10 birds. West Virginia Grouse are the hardest upland birds to find and hunt in NA. These dog's relay stand out in their brush work. They are better than most gun dog breeds in thick cover.

If you want a wachtel that circles rabbits, chose a calm pup. The calm methodical dogs are better at systematically following a track. This is apposed to a high spirited dog that hunts with passion but blows by the turns in the track. Any Wachtel will flush rabbits effectively.

If you are a hunter, you will be happy with a Wachtelhund, Good Luck.

Aaron

Thanks for the kind words.
That was a few years ago when she was taking a ride with my bride in the convertible. LOL
The dog enjoyed the car that day for sure!

Every time I read more about these dogs the more excited I get!

Beautiful Boykin Damain, I have one too. They're great dogs!

What part of S. La are you from? I'm near the Lafayette area.
